Line Pipe Properties and Specification

Following the cessation of the Australian linepipe manufacturing industry in 2012, a key challenge for Australian constructors was having confidence in dealing with international suppliers. The Energy Pipelines CRC supported overseas linepipe (technology) suppliers to understand the requirements of the Australian industry and AS 2885.

A ‘Linepipe specification’ was developed to assist Australian including pipeline owners and local steel pipe distributors to purchase overseas linepipe with greater confidence. The research addressed the adequacy of current Australian, ISO and API standards for the specification of purchased overseas linepipe and provided the specification of high frequency welded (HFW) and longitudinal-submerged arc-welded (LSAW) pipes for gas transmission application in sizes up to DN650. The research outcomes were adopted in the design part (Part 1) of AS 2885.
